Sheffield Futures
Sheffield Futures is a charity that helps young people feel well, have a voice and find the right training, education or job for them. At their city-centre hub, Star House, they run weekly drop-in sessions, wellbeing cafés and youth events — no booking needed! In just one year, they supported thousands through counselling, one-to-one help and school sessions. From youth work to events and admin, there are lots of ways to make a difference here.

Accountant
As an Accountant, you would make sure Sheffield Futures’ money is managed properly. You would keep track of budgets, help plan spending and make sure staff are paid correctly. You would also prepare reports to show how money is being used to support young people. You would need to be good with numbers, focused on detail and able to explain complicated things clearly.
Communications Assistant
As a Communications Assistant, you would help tell people all about the amazing work Sheffield Futures does. You might write social media posts, help design posters or update the website. You would also support events and create stories that show the impact of your organisation. You would need to be creative, organised and enjoy writing or working with digital tools.
Counsellor
As a Counsellor, you would help young people talk about their thoughts and feelings in a safe and private space. You might support them with things like friendships, family issues, mental health or school stress. You would ask questions, listen carefully and help them make sense of their emotions. You would need to be calm, caring, trustworthy and able to listen without judging.
Job Coach
As a Job Coach, you would support young people who are getting ready to work or looking for their first job. You would help them build confidence, write CVs, prepare for interviews and explore careers they might enjoy. You might also help them apply for training or apprenticeships. You would need to be encouraging, patient and good at giving advice that’s clear and helpful.
Social Prescriber
As a Social Prescriber, you would help people find support in their community to feel healthier and happier. Instead of giving out medicine, you might link someone to a walking group, art class, support group or volunteering opportunity. You would spend time listening, understanding their needs and guiding them to helpful services. You would need to be kind, a great listener and passionate about making a difference in people’s lives.
Fun fact: In one year alone, Sheffield Futures delivered a whopping 1,648 counselling sessions!
